Literary Angst

A book I've been reading, and quite enjoying, just used one of the most obvious, over-used, and infuriatingly DUMB tropes as a key plot-point. I can no longer keep reading. Two hundred and fifty pages into a pretty good book and they pull THIS? SHIT!

REALLY? The killer is actually someone who they thought was dead, but since the corpse was "unidentifiable" is actually still alive? REALLY? HOW FUCKING CLEVER! I'VE LITERALLY NEVER HEARD THAT ONE BEFORE!

I guess I should at least count my blessings that a key male character wasn't really a cleverly-disguised woman.

yes...that'd be ok too, just not the "we assume this body is this guy, cause we're really too lazy to check. But WAIT! it's NOT, and he's the killer! OMG!!!11"

Have the hero get amnesia or be temporarily blind, instead. THAT'S never been done

How about if I have them suffer BOTH fates? And then fall into a grain thresher?!

Slide Slide, Slippidy Slide?!?

[identity profile] mlknchz.livejournal.com 2010-10-28 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
sure, cause he's BLIND

but if you stop reading now you'll miss the clever ending where it turns out to all have been a dream... OR WAS IT?!!?!?

I mean, COME ON, these people are supposed to be well-trained investigators, and they miss something so effing obvious?

One book that I think, might not bore you at all is Flann O´Brien´s "The Third Policeman" though more than one person is quite dead (but not boring;) there, too... Just an idea! (I greatly enjoyed it -the writing is genial- though I knew the plot): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Third_Policeman
