I don't think the Supreme Court should outlaw the use of the Confederate Flag. Personally, I think it's great to be able to visually identify idiots so easily. By all means, fly the Confederate Flag, but OWN IT. "A symbol of Southern Heritage"? PLEASE. It didn't exist in the South before 1861. It's a symbol of a specific 4 year period, 1861-1865. At the risk of being accused of Godwinning it, it's EXACTLY like saying a swastika is a symbol of "German Heritage" when everyone knows you're talking about a specific 12 year period, 1933-1945. Don't try to be cutesy, or coy, or disingenuous, THIS is what you're talking about. That's fine, but BE HONEST. Man up and accept all the baggage that goes with it, but DO NOT try to fly the symbol of repression, murder, and inhumanity and try to call it something other than what it is.
