Pointless intellectual exercises
Sep. 12th, 2011 05:23 pmFlipping through the channels right now, I caught the last few minutes of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen". Leaving aside the horribilosity of the movie (which is a LOT to leave aside) I found myself lost in reverie.
Who, I thought, would be included in that League if it were set in say, 1935?
Nick and Nora Charles came to mind, and Sir Denis Nayland Smith. Richard Hannay and Lamont Cranston deserve a spot, I think, and Sam Spade as a wild card.
I'm also thinking "The Benefactor" or, conversely D-503 from Zamyatins "We" would make and admirable nemesis.
Who'd you add?
