Aug. 11th, 2010 09:18 amI'm just about to finish "Memoir of a Beautiful Boy" by Robert Leleux. I'm finding it to be the worst kind of "gay literature"; the "colorful characters" are really just objectionably mean, and the writing is meant to be witty, but just comes off as catty. Add to that the horrific self-absorption of the protagonist and his COMPLETELY unfounded belief in his "talent" and "potential", and you have an incredibly tedious book which you just wish would go away.
Nothing is good enough for this young man, and the problems of the other people in the book are reduced to mere background. There is absolutely no piercing his bubble of self-regard.
