Those two things are VERY VERY different. How could you "strike someone in a fit of anger" and NOT regret it? How could you "strike someone in self-defense" and regret it, if it truly WAS self-defense?
And AGAIN, if you did not "live to regret it" you'd be dead, and therefore unable to read, much less answer, this question.

"Did you regret it, afterwards" is actually what you mean.
