Writer's Block: Bad trip.

Once, while on a business trip to St Paul MN, I had a four-hour layover in Salt Lake City. Of course, I decided to spend that time in the airport bar. I sat down and ordered a Black Label neat, and the bartender said "Sir, it's Sunday, and you're in Salt Lake City"
I replied "Thanks for reminding me, better make it a double", whereupon the bartender informed me they didn't sell hard liquor on Sunday.

WHY do people say - and write- "I'm going to try and do such-and-such"?

It is "I'm going to try TO do such-and-such" Goddammit! "Try and" makes NO EFFING SENSE.
