Part 2

This morning I had to find time to go BACK to the bank to fill out the requisite unauthorized charge paperwork. There were - SURPRISE- MORE charges made on my card ( another $240.00). I told them to cancel my card and report it stolen. They did but said that any charges made before they did that still MIGHT show up and be deducted from my account. Apparently I have NO control whatsoever over charges made on my card and have NO recourse but to patiently wait for re-imbursement of whatever - stiil unknown - amount was charged on my card.

PENDING, according to the bank, does NOT mean pending approval, during which time I SHOULD be able to decline the charge. Declining the charge would mean the merchant wouldn't ship the product to the fucking thief using my money. I wouldn't be out anything, the MERCHANT wouldn't be out anything, and the thief would get NOTHING, and probably stop trying to use my number. This is NOT considered a viable option, however. *I* have to be inconvenienced by having to make multiple trips to the bank and by having to wait for hundreds of dollars to be re-imbursed to me, while there's apparently NO way for me to stop this from happening, despite having notified the bank of this BEFORE THE FIRST UNAUTHORIZED CHARGE ACTUALLY WENT THROUGH. This, as was explained to me by the bank gargoyle, "was for the protection of me as a consumer and of the merchant". I have never wanted to punch someone for using useless buzz-words so much. I declined to ask her how I, who had been stolen from and inconvenienced, was actually being protected in this scenario, but the lack of any scintilla of the light of intelligence in her harridan eyes made me forego doing so.
