Various and sundry pissing-and-moaning

Is it TOO much to ask to want to see an adaptation of "War of the Worlds" done as a Victorian period-piece? Just once, I'd like to see a film based accurately on the source material. I'd heard that someone did one last year, but it seems to have only been a rumor. Even anime a'la "Steamboy" would be preferable to the "updated" dreck. This does NOT, however, apply to the Gene Barry version, which was SWEET.

Needless to say, that also goes for wanting to see a GOOD adaptation of "The Call of Cthulhu" set in the 1920's.
I'd actually settle for ANY decent film version of a Lovecraft story; but that seems impossible.
