It has NOT. ONE thing I'm hopeful about; maybe, just maybe we've turned that corner to where now we'll start encouraging deomcracy. I hope so. Maybe, even though US democracy isn't perfect by a LONG shot, maybe something we start might grow into that? I don't believe for a second that ANY people "aren't ready for democracy". People are ready for it; people will find their own way with it. We can't expect it to be a carbon copy of our form of democracy, nor should we. Are we strong enough, mature enough, intelligent enough, HUMAN enough to just give people the tools and let them build their own house? That house will be different than ours, maybe strange to us, maybe it won't even seem like a proper house to us at all. But the house has to fit the ground, not the other way around. The point needs to be that they're free people making choices for themselves; I can live with that. *shrug*
