The fact that there is absolutely NO great significance to the death of Anna Nicole Smith is lost on the media because of the following reasons;
1. The media is, by and large, made up of the same kind of people who went to the same kind of schools who have the same kind of viewpoints. They are run by the same kind of businessmen who have the same sort of business models.
2. If ONE media outlet reports on a story, the others MUST follow, in lock-step, or be SCOOPED (horror of horrors!)
3. Once the above has happened, there is NO mechanism for the media to know we aren't interested; the story is on every channel, you can NOT turn to a place where it's not being reported. Turning off your TV or radio has no effect.
4. In the end, it doesn't matter, the ratings remain high (since there's no alternative) so the advertisers are happy.
That's really all I have to say on the subject of the media further exploiting a media phenomena they created.
