In reference to Kim Davis and her refusal to give marriage licenses to same-sex couples; I will grant, at this time, her contention that doing so violates her personal religious beliefs ( I think this is BS, as she's been divorced 3 times and married 4. I think the woman is simply a homophobe who is using a convenient argument to advance her homophobic views), but even granting THAT, while Mrs Davis has rights under the First Amendment, the fact that the county for which she works has not replaced her or provided a way for same sex couples to be given a marriage license means that this is now the official policy of the COUNTY. The COUNTY does not, and can not EVER have, protection under the First Amendment. The county is who the First amendment protects INDIVIDUALS from. It CANNOT, as it is doing in this case, use the Trojan Horse of an employees First Amendment rights as a way of contravening a Federal Appeals Court order. To be plain, at this point, it is the COUNTY, not an individual, that is in violation of that court order.
